How to Close Sales Without Feeling Pushy

Mar 12, 2026
Selling Without Selling

Most entrepreneurs I work with hate selling. They’re brilliant at their craft. They genuinely want to help people. But the moment a conversation turns toward money, everything gets awkward.

I get it. Nobody wants to be that person. The pushy salesperson reading from a script, using manipulation tactics they learned from a YouTube video or webinar about “high-ticket closing.”

Selling is a skill that EVERY business person must hone because it means that if you don’t, you don’t earn any money. In my world, selling doesn’t have to feel like that. The best salespeople I know aren’t pushy at all, they’re just great at conversations.

Why Traditional Sales Training Fails Entrepreneurs

Most sales training comes from the structures designed for corporate sales teams. Scripts,  objection handling and closing techniques, including the “what would it be worth to you” line that makes everyone cringe.

Selling in this way might work in certain environments, but when you’re a coach, consultant, or course creator selling a personal service, scripted sales feels wrong - because it is wrong. Your buyers can feel the script and it breaks trust before you’ve even built it.

What I am not saying is that you should wing every sales call with no structure. That’s just as bad. You end up rambling, going off topic, forgetting to ask the important questions and even just talking more than you need to. And the result? The person you’re speaking with leaves the conversation confused about what you even have to offer, let alone the result you can help them to get.

The Alternative is Something I Call Selling Without Selling™

Selling Without Selling™ is a 7-step framework that makes sales conversations feel like real conversations. There’s no script to memorise, there’s no manipulative closing technique, there’s just a structure that guides the conversation naturally from problem to solution.

Step 1 starts with a simple question. “What’s bugging you right now?”

Not “what are your goals?” Not “where do you see yourself in 5 years?” Just... what’s the thing that’s keeping you stuck today?

That one question changes the entire dynamic. You’re not pitching, you’re listening, and when people feel heard, they trust you. When they trust you, the sale takes care of itself.

The rest of the framework builds from there. By the time you get to step 7, most people say “How do we start?” without you ever having to ask for the sale. No awkward closing and certainly no pressure. Just a natural next step.

Why Selling Without Selling™ Works Better

I use this framework on every sales conversation I have. My close rate sits around 90%. Not because I’m some kind of sales genius. Because the framework removes the pressure from both sides.

Yes, I triage my enquiries and not everyone gets to book a call with me directly, which is also part of the secret sauce to a high percentage of conversions.

When you listen more, and talk less, the buyer doesn’t feel sold to. They feel understood. This means that when you present a solution that directly addresses what they told you three minutes ago, the “yes” is natural and not forced.

Customers, even those spending $5,000+ with you, will buy when they feel the connection is real. The moment it feels transactional, you’ve lost them. The  framework keeps it human.

Want To Learning the Full Framework

I have the Selling Without Selling™ framework online as a short mini-course that you can access here.

If you want to learn this in person, I will teach all seven steps of Selling Without Selling at the next Simplify Summit. You’ll practice time in the room with others so you feel the difference before you use it with real prospects.

If the idea of sales conversations makes you uncomfortable, this is the framework that fixes that. It was built for people who hate selling. What’s interesting is that it turns out, those are the best salespeople.
